200 Hour Teacher Trainings 2027
200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Orange County, California
Deepen Your Practice. Find Your Voice. Become the Teacher You Want to Be.
Yoga has a funny way of starting as something you do and eventually becoming something that changes the way you live.
Maybe you've been practicing for years and keep finding yourself thinking, I want to understand this more.
Maybe you have secretly wanted to become a yoga teacher but don't quite feel "ready."
Maybe you aren't sure you ever want to teach at all—you simply know there is something deeper here that you want to explore.
Wherever you are starting, you're welcome here.
Jennifer Smith's 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Orange County is an in-person, hands-on program designed to help you deepen your personal practice, understand the tradition and philosophy of yoga, develop practical teaching skills, and become a confident, thoughtful yoga teacher.
This is yoga teacher training with plenty of tradition, plenty of anatomy, plenty of actual teaching practice—and absolutely no requirement to take yourself too seriously.
2027 TRAINING DATES
January 9 – March 21, 2027
Saturdays & Sundays | 1:30–7:30 PM
Newport Beach, Orange County California
This Is More Than Learning How to Teach a Yoga Class
A 200-hour yoga teacher training should teach you much more than where to put your foot in Warrior II.
You'll learn the why behind the practice—not just the what.
Together, we'll explore the physical practice of yoga, anatomy and alignment, hands-on assists, sequencing, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, Ayurveda, teaching methodology, ethics, communication and the business of yoga.
But we'll also spend a lot of time figuring out something equally important:
How do YOU want to show up as a teacher?
Because the goal isn't to turn you into a copy of your favorite yoga teacher.
The goal is to give you the knowledge, experience and confidence to find your own voice.
An In-Person Yoga Teacher Training in Orange County
This is a Southern California yoga teacher training designed for real humans with real lives.
You don't need to move to an ashram, quit your job or disappear into the mountains for three months.
Our in-person weekend format allows you to immerse yourself in the training while continuing to work, parent, study, travel and generally keep your life functioning.
You'll learn in community, practice together, ask questions, teach each other, receive feedback and spend a LOT of time actually experiencing the material.
Because reading about teaching yoga and actually standing in front of a room of people are two very different things.
What You'll Learn in 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training
Yoga Asana, Alignment & Foundations
Learn how to understand and teach yoga postures with greater awareness and intention.
We'll explore foundational poses, alignment principles, modifications, variations and the relationship between anatomy, movement and individual bodies.
The goal isn't to make every body look the same in a pose.
It's to understand how to help different bodies experience the practice safely and intelligently.
Anatomy & Physiology for Yoga Teachers
Anatomy doesn't have to be boring.
Actually, it can be fascinating.
You'll learn functional anatomy and physiology as they relate to yoga, movement, breath and teaching.
You'll begin to understand what is happening in the body during movement and how that knowledge can make you a more informed and adaptable teacher.
Hands-On Assists
Learn how and when to use hands-on assists with intention, respect and clear communication.
We'll explore different types of assists, consent, boundaries, alignment and ways to support students without trying to physically force someone into a pose.
Hands-on learning is a big part of this training because teaching yoga is not just about knowing information.
It's about knowing how to work with actual people.
Sequencing
Learn how to build intelligent, creative and purposeful yoga classes.
We'll explore sequencing principles, transitions, themes, peak poses, warm-ups, cool-downs and how to create classes that actually make sense from beginning to end.
And yes, you'll get to experiment.
Some sequences will be brilliant.
Some will be...character building.
That's part of the process.
Pranayama & Breathwork
Explore traditional pranayama practices and learn how breath influences the body, mind and practice.
You'll develop a deeper understanding of breathing techniques, their purposes and how to thoughtfully incorporate them into your own practice and teaching.
Meditation
Learn practical approaches to meditation and explore how meditation can become part of both your personal practice and the classes you teach.
No incense requirement.
No sitting perfectly still while secretly wondering what you're having for dinner.
Just actual tools for working with attention, awareness and the mind.
Yoga Philosophy
Go beyond the physical practice.
We'll explore the philosophical foundations of yoga and the ideas that have shaped the tradition, including the Yoga Sutras, yogic lifestyle, ethics and the broader context of yoga.
The goal isn't to memorize a bunch of Sanskrit words for a test.
It's to understand the ideas well enough that they actually become relevant to your life and your teaching.
Ayurveda & Yogic Lifestyle
Explore Ayurveda and traditional yogic approaches to lifestyle, balance and well-being.
You'll learn how these traditions connect with the broader practice of yoga and how to approach them thoughtfully in a modern teaching environment.
Teaching Methodology
This is where the rubber meets the yoga mat.
You'll learn how to communicate clearly, demonstrate poses, offer useful instruction, observe students, give feedback, manage a class and create an environment where people can actually learn.
You'll practice teaching throughout the program—not just at the very end.
Because confidence doesn't come from thinking about teaching.
It comes from doing it.
Finding Your Teaching Voice
There is no shortage of yoga teachers who sound exactly like everyone else.
You don't need to become one of them.
We'll work on communication, authenticity, confidence and finding your own way of expressing the practice.
You may discover that your teaching voice is calm and grounded.
Or funny.
Or analytical.
Or poetic.
Or all of the above depending on the day.
There is room for your personality here.
The Business of Yoga
Learn some of the practical realities of creating a life and career around yoga.
We'll discuss teaching opportunities, building relationships, professionalism, communication, marketing and the business side of being a yoga teacher.
Because knowing how to teach a beautiful class is one thing.
Knowing how to actually get people into the room is another.
You Won't Just Learn About Teaching. You'll Practice Teaching.
One of the most important parts of this 200-hour yoga teacher training is getting real practice.
You'll teach.
You'll observe.
You'll receive feedback.
You'll try again.
You'll learn how to speak to a room full of people without suddenly forgetting every yoga pose you've ever learned.
You'll discover what feels natural.
You'll discover what needs work.
And you'll become more comfortable finding your voice in front of others.
That process is where so much of the magic happens.
Special Workshops + Guest Teachers
Your yoga education shouldn't live inside one little box.
Throughout the training, you'll have opportunities to learn from special guest lecturers and workshops that expand the conversation beyond the basic curriculum.
These experiences are designed to expose you to different perspectives, specialties and ways of thinking about yoga, movement, teaching and the modern yoga world.
Because the more you learn, the more questions you get to ask.
And that's a very good thing.
Who Is This Yoga Teacher Training For?
You do not need to be able to do a handstand.
You do not need to be able to put your foot behind your head.
And you definitely don't need to look like an Instagram yoga model.
This training may be a great fit if you are:
A newer yoga student who wants to understand the practice more deeply
An experienced practitioner ready to take your practice to another level
Someone who has always wanted to become a yoga teacher
A teacher looking for more knowledge, confidence and practical experience
Someone interested in anatomy, movement, philosophy, meditation and the deeper layers of yoga
Someone looking for an in-person yoga teacher training in Orange County
Someone who wants a weekend-format training that works alongside a job, family or school
Someone who isn't sure if teaching is the end goal but knows they want to go deeper
You don't have to know exactly where this experience is going to take you.
You just have to be curious enough to begin.
Do I Have to Want to Become a Yoga Teacher?
Nope.
This is one of my favorite questions.
Some people come into teacher training because they've dreamed about teaching for years.
Others come because they want to understand their own practice.
Some want to deepen their knowledge of anatomy.
Some want to explore philosophy.
Some are at a crossroads and want to reconnect with themselves.
And some simply have a little voice saying:
"I think there's more here."
Listen to that voice.
You don't have to have your entire five-year plan figured out before you begin.

Meet the lead trainer...
Jennifer Smith
Yoga Teacher. Teacher Trainer. Lifelong Student.
Jennifer Smith has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years and has spent her career exploring the many layers of the practice—from traditional teachings and philosophy to anatomy, alignment, pranayama, meditation and modern movement.
Her studies have included Hatha and Ayurveda in Rishikesh, India, as well as Ashtanga with Caroline Klebl, alongside years of teaching and continued study.
Jennifer's teaching style is fun and function driven, blending traditional yoga postures with modern mobility movements.
Her classes and trainings are rooted in intelligent movement, practical understanding, curiosity and the belief that yoga should be useful both on and off the mat.
She teaches a variety of styles and has experience with Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, power, restorative, yin, meditation and pranayama.
But if you ask Jennifer what she really wants her students to take away from yoga, the answer is pretty simple:
Keep showing up. Stay curious. Don't give up. And learn how to actually live your practice.
As a teacher trainer, Jennifer loves helping students become more confident, knowledgeable and authentic teachers—not carbon copies of someone else.
Why Train With Jennifer?
FUN + FUNCTION
Yoga can be serious without being sooooo serious.
Expect a training that combines traditional yoga teachings with practical, modern movement concepts.

You'll move, practice, teach, observe, ask questions and get feedback.

You'll learn alongside people who are also figuring things out, asking questions and growing.
Ready to Go Deeper?
You don't have to know exactly what comes next.
You just have to decide whether you're ready to explore it.
